Hello London.
Hello some incredibly phallic tower blocks.
Hello London bus drivers who know precisely the width of their vehicle, take no shit from car drivers, and thereby delight the kids sitting at the front of the top deck. And also get me to Victoria Coach Station in time for an earlier bus.
Hello friendly National Express driver who told me not to tell anyone, as he let me on an earlier bus than my ticket allowed.

Waterside breakfast in Amsterdam was sponsored by my rules on zero food waste and the UK rules on cheese from the EU.

Hello Netherlands. Hello clear blue sky. Hello tractor spreading fresh shit on a field, clouds of water vapour trailing behind in the frosty air.

Hello also a convenient 90 minute delay on the night train. Delays somehow feel different when you're lying in a bed. My connection at Amsterdam was a safe 3 hours for precisely this scenario.

Now that I got me to the fish it's the home straight now. Familiar #SwedenToWales stuff.
The main haul is Berlin–Amsterdam by #EuropeanSleeper with a couchette for £36 (that was a sale price, but under £50 is standard).
Hamburg–Berlin before that? Well that's £12 and takes two hours with Deutsche Bahn.
And why Amsterdam? Welcome to the world of Eurostar pricing: a 4hr ride from NL to London via Brussels can cost less than just the 2hr ride from Brussels.

OK, let's talk fish.

This building just south of the Elbe and surrounded by industrial buildings, an autobahn and the main rail tracks south from Hamburg looks like a normal house but is Veddeler Fischgaststätte.
It's been there since the 1920s through war and flood. They know fish.

Like fish and chips? Go.
Are you some kind of fish and potato salad weirdo? Go.
The only other menu choice is herring/not herring, and baby/klein/groß portion size.

Electrified autobahn west of Lübeck.
Like Sweden built near Gävle, and then dismantled.

Hello Germany. Hello passport control. Hello the last 90 minutes of this Flixbus journey to Hamburg.

#GetMeToTheFish

Made it to the boat, specifically the electric hybrid ferry from Rødby to Puttgarden.
Which means it's time to play #HummusRoulette.

I hate the smell of airports* in the morning**.
Even ignoring aviation's climate impacts, why do we tolerate that much damage to local air quality?
* Specifically today, CPH Kastrup, but let's face it they're all equally bad.
** No better, pm.

A German pal has tipped me off about (quote) the best fish and chips in Germany.
I find out at 4pm today whether the "in Germany" caveat recalibrates everything.
