#ChatGPT creates #geneticallyengineered insecticidal maize plant – check out the freshly published article in Frontiers in Plant Science!

According to the @EUCommission legislative proposal, this #NGT plant would not have to be tested for risks or labelled.

@testbiotech demands: This proposal must be rejected, because it does not guarantee safe handling of #NGTplants. It is already technically and scientifically obsolete before it would even come into force.

#geneticallyengineered animals: According to the European Food Safety Authority @[email protected] there are no new risks associated with the use of #newgeneticengineering techniques (#NGT).

In contrast, a fullness of scientific publications show that #CRISPR & Co. are likely to result in specific risks and additional animal suffering.

Plastic Pollution In Waterways is Bad and Worsening. But There's a Solution: Genetically-Engineered Bacteria That Eat Plastic

Genetically engineered bacteria can not only degrade plastic waste, but they can convert it into valuable industrial chemicals. There are still unknowns -- for example, how to do this at scale and how it will be regulated.

Researchers in #China recently released a study, which has not been peer-reviewed, that tested the #GX_P2V #coronavirus on #geneticallyengineered mice. Although #GXP2V belongs to the coronavirus family, it did not originate from #SARS-CoV-2, which causes #COVID19.

Chinese scientists didn’t create 100% fatal COVID-19 strain

Should we panic? Social media users might after seeing online claims that researchers in China are concocting a disease

CRISPR tomatoes now on the shelves

5 February 2024 / The first CRISPR tomatoes are now on the shelves in Japan. The 'GABA tomato' was developed with new genetic engineering techniques (NGTs). This is shown by photo just recently taken in a supermarket in the Tokyo region. According to the information on the packages, the tomatoes will lower blood pressure, relieve mental stress and improve sleep quality. Experts are doubting that the consumption of the fruits goes along with such effects.

If #newgeneticengineering (#NewGE) is deregulated in Europe as proposed by the @[email protected] such products could soon be on the shelves here too – without #riskassessment and without labeling.
