It’s a fairly pleasant 25° so I ate breakfast outside. There are dozens of dragonflies hovering above the garden and two blue banded bees buzzing in the flowers. They particularly love the salvia and cosmos #GardenNotes

first winter night-freeze coming here soon - chart⬇️. the horta garden already pretty despondent from several storm-bashings and long periods of heavy overcast rot-inducing damp.
a few strawbs still ripening under polythene.
favas flowering tho about 5% are rotting, helped by the storms snapping them.
parsnips and beets still with lots of leaf.
#1 challenge is ¿can I keep the overwinter-test #edibleLupins alive? started in stages from october. the ones that have been under polythene have their leaves open; the others keeping them /folded/. suspect direct frost would kill them. early summer heat does too, hence the winter test.
peas lurking in last years sweetcorn debris, waiting to explode at first hint of spring: this is what some self-sown escapes did well at last year, so I set a bed up for it.
portuguese walking stick sweet cabbage etc has been slow to recover from heat/fire.
otherwise, building a polytunnel in weather breaks. using bundles of young fire-killed pines as hoops.
