This Australian pygmy sundew forms dense clusters of intensely coloured rosettes, each one armed with glistening sticky tentacles ready to catch passing insects. The white flower with its distinctive red markings at the centre rises elegantly above the carnivorous mat below — a beautiful contrast between delicate bloom and deadly trap.

*Drosera patens* is one of the more striking pygmy sundews in the collection, especially when the whole pot fills up like this. The deep red colouration intensifies in bright light, making it as decorative as it is fascinating.

Deze Australische dwergzonnedauw vormt dichte clusters van intens gekleurde rozetjes, elk bewapend met glinsterende kleverige klierharen die klaarstaan om voorbijkomende insecten te vangen. Het witte bloempje met zijn opvallende rode tekening in het midden verheft zich sierlijk boven het vleesetende tapijt eronder — een prachtig contrast tussen tere bloem en dodelijke val.

*Drosera patens* is een van de opvallendste dwergzonnedauwen in de collectie, zeker wanneer de hele pot zo dicht vol staat. De dieprode kleur wordt nog intenser in fel licht, waardoor hij even decoratief als fascinerend is.

A single bloom standing tall among a sea of spent seed heads — *Drosera pulchella* 'Orange' knows how to steal the show. 🌸

This Australian pygmy sundew is one of my favourites in the collection. The rosettes are tiny, but what they lack in size they more than make up for in charm. The soft peachy-orange flowers appear on delicate stems, rising above the glistening, dew-covered traps below. The spent seed heads all around it are a reminder of just how freely this little plant flowers and sets seed.

Like all pygmy Drosera, it also produces gemmae — miniature vegetative buds that allow the plant to spread and multiply. A true overachiever in miniature form.

Één bloem die zich statig verheft tussen een zee van lege zaadstelen — *Drosera pulchella* 'Orange' weet hoe het de show moet stelen. 🌸

Deze Australische dwergzonnedauw is een van mijn favorieten in de collectie. De rozetjes zijn minuscuul, maar wat ze aan formaat missen, maken ze meer dan goed met charme. De zachte perzikroze-oranje bloempjes verschijnen op tere steeltjes, hoog boven de glinsterende, dauwbedekte klierharen eronder. De lege zaadstelen eromheen herinneren eraan hoe royaal dit plantje bloeit en zaad zet.

Zoals alle dwerg-Drosera maakt het ook gemmae — kleine vegetatieve knopjes waarmee de plant zich kan verspreiden en vermenigvuldigen. Een echte overloper in miniformaat.

Tiny but mighty — *Drosera allantostigma* is in full bloom! 🌸

This small Australian pygmy sundew is one of those plants that never ceases to amaze me. The rosettes are barely a centimeter across, yet they produce these delicate white flowers on tall, slender stems — a striking contrast to the carnivorous traps below. Like all pygmy sundews, it uses gemmae to reproduce: tiny, lens-shaped vegetative buds that can be separated and grown into new plants.

Watching something so miniature flower so abundantly is a real treat.

Klein maar krachtig — *Drosera allantostigma* staat in volle bloei! 🌸

Deze kleine Australische dwergzonnedauw is een van die planten die me telkens opnieuw weet te verbazen. De rozetjes zijn nauwelijks een centimeter breed, maar produceren sierlijke witte bloempjes op lange, slanke stelen — een opvallend contrast met de vleesetende klierharen eronder. Zoals alle dwergzonnedauwen verspreidt hij zich via gemmae: kleine, lensachtige vegetatieve knopjes die je kunt afnemen en tot nieuwe planten kunt kweken.

Zo'n minuscuul plantje zo rijkelijk zien bloeien is elke keer een verrassing.

Second time it’s come into bloom (but no gemmae yet annoyingly): the true Drosera allantostigma.
A simple but attractive flower on one of two stalks the bloomer is making, and simple rosette…but belies the rarity of the species both in the wild and in trade.

Teeny tiny flower, and the rather large rosette, of Drosera pygmaea Mt. Lofty. For whatever reason this form grows a lot better than, but produces gemmae far less easy, than the green New Zealand form I have.

Spring is waking up the bog garden! 🌱 Tiny new rosettes of sundew (Drosera) are emerging from the wet moss, unfurling their delicate leaves after winter dormancy. Each little spoon-shaped leaf will soon be covered in glistening sticky droplets — nature's most elegant insect trap. It's always such a rewarding sight to spot these miniature carnivores coming back to life.

De lente wekt de moerasbak tot leven! 🌱 Kleine nieuwe rozetten van zonnedauw (Drosera) komen tevoorschijn uit het natte mos, na hun winterrust. Elk klein lepelvormig blaadje zal al snel bedekt zijn met glinsterende kleverige druppeltjes — een van de meest elegante insectenvallen in de natuur. Het is altijd een bijzonder moment om deze minuscule vleesetende plantjes te zien ontwaken.
