Nobody asked, but I'm here to tell you; yes, you can smash a 2000 mAh LiPo battery into a Gameboy color.
You'll need to dremel the hell out of it, remove whatever you can from the back of the pcb just to make space. But yes. USB-C charging too!

My Gameboy Pocket has reached its final form
I added some cool buttons from Labfifteenco (transparent with white on top) and stickers on the back! Only the serial number sticker is original though.
Pretty happy with this build! When itβs within budget, I want to do similar stuff to my GBC now π
Also got buttons for my GBA from the same place, but that will be another post as it needs some more fixes as well.
It seems Zedlabz has released an OLED screen replacement for the GameBoy Color: https://www.zedlabz.com/products/oled-laminated-touch-screen-display-for-nintendo-game-boy-color-gbc-amoled-upgrade-mod-backlight-kit-colour-changing-logo-hispeedido
Pretty interesting as I am looking at upgrading my GBC at some point, but not sure about it's longevity. Don't want to put a screen that will yellow/burn-in in 5 years on a 25 year old device π
Gameboy status update
Installed an IPS display & swapped the shell on the Gameboy Pocket that had a bad screen.
Managed to transfer the serial # sticker from the old shell, but not the larger sticker. Waiting for replacements to arrive...
Also purchased 4 rechargeable lithium AAA's since this thing seems to eat normal batteries in around 2 hours lol.
It works great and the install was pretty easy! Very happy with it!
Little light blocker for the Game Boy Camera!
One problem with the original camera is that vias on the back of the sensor PCB were so large, that light shown through and caused some light distortions. Made a little model to cover as much of the back of the sensor PCB as possible to stop light from leaking in. Makes a notable difference.
Free model available in the link π

A community member who goes by Hatch remade the Game Boy Camera shell. I did some modifications to the model and used my M12 lens mount that fits inside the eye portion. Im so pleased at how this lens fits perfectly inside! Printed in dyed black MJF nylon.
Kiddo is 15 years old, bought a replacement Gameboy Advance screen with a backlight and installed it himself. This is a completely different experience now, I'm blown away.
