But laws against "freedom camping" often fail to distinguish between people who are responsible and considerate, and the minority who are not. As a result, they often trample on our basic rights as citizens, and our need to rest as we drive long distances.

Laws against "freedom camping" are essentially laws against being poor. When homeless families are being fined just for trying to protect their children's wellbeing, it's time these laws were re-evaluated.
