Colourised #photos from the day #Nelson’s main #flagship #HMS #Foudroyant ran aground on #Blackpool beach. An 80 gun second rate #Ship of the #Line, launched #Plymouth in 1798. On 16th June 1897, she anchored off North Pier, where in a #storm, the #anchor dragged and caused the ship to run aground. The ship was #battered by the #waves causing #critical #damage. The ship lay on Blackpool beach until 16 months later, when the wreck was finally moved.

@mark Wow, wow and wow again. Thanks for the memory. I stayed on the #Foudroyant known then as #TSFoudroyant as a Schoolgirl. It was moored in Portsmouth Harbour. It was used as a training centre for mostly boys but 'allowed' girls to go for 3 weeks a year. Best memories ever. I have some photos from that time but not with me. I'll post them in a few weeks time when I am home. #Memories #Ship
