Boris KretzingerSaw something on the Gram that reminded me of good old LAN parties: Packing a heavy CRT monitor and a Mini Tower in your car, diving to a friend's place, unload, have a weekend, sleep little, eat badly, still stay skinny, have fun and enjoy the time with friends. Man ... that won't ever come back, no matter how much I want it. I can't even get two people together with old PC hardware (not vintage 8 or 16 bit stuff) and LAN-party on. Let alone a full room of dudes to play bloody Blobby Volley in between CS Aztec or Age of Empires 😅. Or even Hearts, for crying out loud: A card game via LAN? Sure, why the heck not 🤣. We were crazy. But it was awesome. And then drive back in my old VW Polo, packed with all the gear, barely seeing something through the frozen windows during winter time. Wild. Maybe I'll fire up CS on Steam to get a little bit of that ... but I know it won't be the same. Hope you have some great junk food, some lemonade and an great weekend everyone! Cheers! 🫶

EmsquaredA key bit that affected me deeply and often pops into my brain started with that classic film of an Apollo Saturn V launching and which camera-wise then follows it until it's just the exhaust flames above the camera.
In this piece that Saturn V rocket flame suddenly becomes part of the flame of the torch held aloft by the statue of liberty and the spoken words at that point were:
"going somewhere?".
I find that memory doubly poignant now.

WulfricI've lived in the mid-west for 26 years and I have to admit there is very little I miss about Rhode Island. Offhand, I can even sum them all up in a single scene: Sitting by ocean, eating some gaggers (NY System Wieners), and washing it all down with a coffee Awful Awful (shake).
I've got a decent recipe to fake the wieners. I know where to get everything I need for the coffee shake. They aren't quite the same, but they'll take the edge off. The ocean is hard mimic though.
Why am I suddenly thinking about this? I've built an Outpost on a beach in Starfield and I turned off the music to listen to the surf as white noise.
Now I want gaggers.
