The lovely village of Fortingall in Perthshire, home to what may be the oldest living thing on Earth, the Fortingall Yew, and believed by some to be the birthplace of Pontius Pilate. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/fortingall/fortingall/index.html
The story that Pontius Pilate was born in Fortingall (completely ridiculous, since the Romans wouldn’t come near Scotland until 71 CE) seems to have begun not long after Sir Donald Currie, a shipping magnate, bought the Glenlyon estate in 1885. Currie had several literary friends, & they may have invented the story as a prank.
The Fortingall Yew – estimated to be between 2000 and 9000 years old – is real.
