Back to Black

This exceptionally rare 17th c. death notice is printed in white on black paper with a deep bite. Just ... stunning.

Albrecht Dürer Meets. . .
MAD Magazine!?

I've never seen a Dürer Fortifications manual where the building edges line up so perfectly!
Or one where the tower gets resized quite so hilariously.
Coincidence?

This gorgeous copy once owned by Philip Hofer is at #NYPL Prints!

Teeny TINIEST Triumph?

Albrecht Dürer's entire woodcut Triumphal Car of Maximilian wouldn't fit in this small book, so someone improvised and redid it as a much-smaller engraving!
It's in a 1606 text compilation by Dürer's pal Pirckheimer, who advised him on the triumphal iconography.

FYI: I need more #FoldOutFriday posts

Some #FoldOutFriday to celebrate the end of the first week back at work! This beauty from the 17th century was one of the most popular surgical texts of its day: 'Marrow of Chirurgery with The Anatomy of Humane Bodies According to the Most Modern Anatomists' (1685)

HOLY... Martin Luther?!!

Was NOT expecting this 1565 English anti-Protestant propaganda broadside to jump out when I was browsing the stacks the other day.
Definitely yelped when it unfolded! Might have blasphemed? #FoldoutFriday
