#FerdinandMarcos ruled the #Philippines for more than 20 years, most of that as a dictator under #MartialLaw (with US support). The #FirstQuarterStorm in 1970 had memorable acts of resistance, like crashing a fire engine through #Malacañang palace gates #ThisDayInHistory in 1970.
In 1971, despite evident public fear (as seen in the #FirstQuarterStorm of 1970) that amending the Constitution would extend Marcos Sr’s second and final term, a Con-Con was assembled. While plagued with exposés and alleged bribery from Marcos administration (Eduardo Quintero exposé), the Con-Con introduced anti-dynasty amendments, often called the “Ban-Marcos” stipulations.
