Unveiling the formation of the #firstgalaxies
Utilizing high-resolution three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics simulations and a detailed supernova physics model run on supercomputers, a research team led by Dr. Ke-Jung Chen from the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica (ASIAA) has revealed that the physical properties of the first galaxies are critically determined by the masses of the first stars. Their study is published in The Astrophysical Journal.
A new #study claims that revising the #standardcosmologicalmodel is not necessary. However, #astronomers may have to revisit what they understand about how the #firstgalaxies formed and evolved.
Ever since the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) captured its first glimpse of the early universe, astronomers have been surprised by the presence of what appear to be more "ultramassive" galaxies than expected. Based on the most widely accepted cosmological model, they should not have been able to evolve until much later in the history of the universe, spurring claims that the model needs to be changed.
Initial #JWST observations have shown that #firstgalaxies appeared to be brighter and more massive than previously thought. Now, #researchers have developed a new #computersimulation of the #earlyuniverse that closely aligns with observations made by the #Webbtelescope and do not contradict theoretical expectations.
