Well, THAT was an ending. The Borderlands (or Final Prayer, if you prefer) is a nice little melding of folk horror and found footage, two subgenres I'm rather a fan of. If those don't play well for you then this isn't going to change your mind, but writer-director Elliot Goldner does fine work behind the camera and works quite nicely considering the clear low budget. This has all the tropes you expect from found footage, wrapped up in the notion of a Vatican-sent trio investigating supernatural happenings at a church in Italy. Just watched FINAL PRAYER aka THE BORDERLANDS (2013) for the first time and holy hell. How did I never see this movie before?? Found footage, haunted churches, pagan rituals, folk horror, cosmic dread... This movie has it all.
Exactly the type of movie I love and that consistent, deliberate ramp up at the end leads to such a great WTF moment... Loved it. It's on Tubi. Go watch it.
