Ok what's the term for this bad habit: I have a #crochet mens hat pattern that I know comes out right. When I want to make a hat for someone, do I use it? Of course not! I will spend hours looking for and trying a new pattern that I have to frog multiple times because it comes out comically misshapen or mis-sized. Why can I not just stick to what works? Totally pathological. 🧶 #FiberArts #Brochet #Knitting

It's Tuesday night, it has been a crap day with crap weather, brain has ceased to function and filled itself with wine. So of course I am going to cast on a linen sweater t-shirt whose pattern exists solely in my head. What could possibly go wrong?

I need some size advice.

My MIL bought yarn some years ago to knit herself a vest. She's now decided she can't do that herself anymore and so I offered to make it for her.

So far no problem, I picked out a pattern that I think she'll like. But I'm not sure, what size to make. She's close to 90 and has become frail and tiny over the last few years. She's a few hours away so I can't just hop over and take some measurements.

Couple of tiny details still to do but overall I'm very happy with the result!

I’m so excited to share my first knitting pattern! This pattern includes clear written instructions and links to video tutorials to guide you through every step. Most of the design is worked from charts.

About the event

"Did you get an embroidery kit as a gift? No idea how to start the thing, but you’d like to? Did you buy a cute embroidery kit and are a little trepidatious about starting it? Maybe your aunt taught you a little about embroidery when you were 10, but now you are 40 and the stitches didn’t just come back to you? Or maybe you have seen a cute embroidery kit at Past and Future Crafts that you would LOVE to buy, but you have no idea how to get started?

And then you see that all the 'Learn embroidery classes' require you to buy their kit and materials?

Never fear! Tree Heckler is here to help! Dig that thing out of the closet, the junk drawer, or wherever you stashed it. Bring it to this class!

This class is for learning freestyle, crewel work, or cross stitch embroidery ONLY.…"

Intro to Embroidery with Tree Heckler | Past + Future Craft

Past + Future Craft

currently doing some initial research for a collection development project for my Children's Materials class. we have to put together a proposed collection of nonfiction books for children that are still in print, all related to a specific theme of our choice. I was thinking it might be interesting to have a collection focused on heritage crafts or fiber arts. I'm planning on including a mix of book types--biographies of fiber artists, craft project books, informational books about how a specific craft is done and what it is.

wanted to throw this question out to the wider mastodon community--do you have any favorite kids books about fiber arts or other heritage crafts like basketry, blacksmithing, or woodworking? even if they're fiction I'd love to hear about them!
