New collars!

They're from Major Darling. They're minimal hardware Fi compatible collars, so no D ring, nor martingale loop, nor buckle. This is to make them as light as possible with her jingle-free tag. These had to be custom ordered as Major Darling doesn't make collars like this, normally.

Less than 24 hours in and we're feeling really good about this. Did some test walks with and without a phone and got notified appropriately.

The #ficollar uses Bluetooth when near the base station or a phone running the app (using the respective device location; no GPS chip in the base, location set manually) and wifi + (I think) collar GPS when those aren't available. When no wifi, uses mobile network and collar GPS. #fidogs

This is our second husky; our first only slipped his collar a few times several years ago and was generally not motivated to go over/under fences. Our new pup is apparently different.

Interested in seeing if this is hackable or can be better understood via radio. It looks like it works with any wifi network and Bluetooth. #ficollar
