During the Bochum and Union Berlin match, Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was struck on the head by a lighter thrown from the stands and had to leave the field injured. Bochum plans to appeal the 1-1 final result.
Former goalkeeper Oliver Kahn reportedly commented, saying he "would have preferred if the goalkeeper had tried to continue playing and only asked to be substituted if it was no longer possible."
In 2000, Kahn was struck by a golf ball in Freiburg, played on, and Bayern refrained from protesting.
Bochum's managing director, Ilja Kaenzig, condemned accusations of Drewes faking the incident, stating, "It cannot be that one of our players is hit and then has to justify that he wasn't more seriously injured."
