Meta spent $80 billion trying to make the metaverse happen. Today the NYT called it. Meanwhile the Fetaverse, born from mishearing a Hard Fork podcast, runs fine on a few hundred dollars. Turns out you don't need superintelligence or strange glasses. Just good cheese and a domain name. fetaverse.net

@srenaker where do I join the #fetaverse ?
When you’re on the #forkiverse do you get to enjoy the #fetaverse?
@floris I think you just started something. #fetaverse

After a random evening walk in Kalithea we went to a kebab house with “Politiki” food, i.e. food refugees brought over from Constantinople. This is a culturally sensitive subject - it’s very traditional Greek food, with some flavours that are also found in Turkish food (however, never say it tastes like Turkish food!!!). This is food full of history as well as flavour. And there is pork.

At Lolos in Koukaki for #food. There are some posters advertising the „fetaverse“ - I think this should be a hashtag for Greek food on here! I don’t know what it is, but let’s use it.

Welcome!
You have entered the #fetaverse .

@guilevi I do think there is some speech-to-text activity that might be behind it, but #fetaverse as a tag for cheese pictures seems to have overtaken #cheesetodon as an in-group marker

(in general fedi seems to have fun with hashtags and doesn't just use the same tags as other nets, e.g. LichenSubscribe is definitely a Here thang and not a There thing)
