Dana HsiaoFace Raiders is a true AR game where the vast majority of the game takes place in the 3D space you are in with digital holograms actually present around you. It gives a much better idea of what Mythic Realms is like than Pokémon Go does. It’s just too bad that it’s been forgotten to time and can’t compare to the cultural status that Pokémon Go has in laypeople’s minds.
With Mythic Realms on the other hand, you gather resources and build your town inside your room. You’re not going anywhere.
The real comparison in my mind is the Nintendo 3DS game Face Raiders. It was a 2011 pre-loaded game that each 3DS had. You would take a picture of someone, and then bots with their face would come flying out of portals in your walls, which you would then shoot down. It was my first experience with AR.
