@EUCommission "It is for parents to raise their children. Not platforms."
Then don't make a damn app and leave parents and kids alone. It is that simple. You could instead:
- Raise awareness of privacy and security issues for kids (and users, in general).
- Educate kids in schools about responsable use of electronic devices.
- Just ban roblox and other pedo-infested platforms. Seriously. Predators don't hide in signal DMs precisely.
- Start reducing dependency on foreign private digital platforms that ARE out of your control and don't care about sanctions.
- Invest more resources on secure and free software that you can actually control.
You can find this on loop's website: https://loops.video/help-center/federation
#Loops is not federated, despite having gotten funding while describing itself as being opens source and using federation to fit into categories that may or may not have secured funds: https://nlnet.nl/project/Loops/
Look into it yourself. I don't spread uncertainty. I spread information.
I don't even want Loops to fail- I want people trying to be the next Zuk to fuck off somewhere so we can have a truly open internet where it isn't possible to revoke someone's access or ability to see what's under the hood or fork it if they don't like what they see. It's about autonomy. Especially because it's funded in part by donations from normal people!
I have an issue with #FOSSwashing . If Loops changed it's terms, had an open source license, gave access to CURRENT code AS it was used, federated, and didn't have dan running the show, I'd be singing it's praises. I badly want a FOSS federated #tiktokalternative But this is just gonna get us TikTok 2.0.
I believe Dan plans to never #federate , revoke federation, or at least retain the ability to do so. See term 2 on Loop's website: https://loops.video/legal/terms-of-service
which says such things as "under this license you may not:...use the materials for any commercial purpose, or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial);.....transfer the materials to another person or "mirror" and the materials on any other server...This license shall automatically terminate if you violate any of these restrictions and may be terminated by Loops at any time." and "Loops may revise these terms of service for its website at any time without notice" Loops' terms are not open source and could be used to justify #defederation or changing policy on federation. And considering how dan behaves with peers who disagree with him, I could see him deciding federation isn't what he wants to do with Loops, which he treats not as an #opensource thing but as #proprietary
NO #FOSSWASHING
I'll make it really easy for anyone wanting to do their own research on Loops/pixelfed.

A few fun fact about this "nonprofit" #fosswashing organisation:
1. The @linuxfoundation is governed by #gafam and is vehicle / #undercover for such "open" project like f.e. new #overturemaps, created to #monetize community created #opendata, where real membership cost milions $ (https://overturemaps.org/become-a-member)
