My local council is giving out free ipads to school kids. If this helps their learning, that's great.
But I want to ask:
- Will all learning be delivered though the ipad? How will this impact students who learn better with something more tactile?
- Will any digital replacements for what would have been resuable textbooks now an ongoing subscription cost for schools?
- How much curriculum content is usable offline? Thinking about data costs and if cloud providers goes offline?
- Are there any data backup strategies in place? If a device breaks does a student lose all their notes?
- P6-S6 is 8 years. Have they got a deal with apple for security updates for those full 8 years?
- Digital literacy is frequently justification for projects like this, how much do ipads in particular help (e.g. vs a laptop)? Do you have any peer-reviewed evidence or plans to report on this?
