Linux 7.0 brings faster swap, Intel TSX and Rock Band 4 controller support - OMG! Ubuntu

Why does #Windows fragment files on #exfat when you write them onto an empty drive one by one after each other?
WTF?!?

Does it try to be smart somehow or what is going on here? Now I need to defrag this shit even though I copied the files onto it just now.

Sigh.

Additional question how often can you defrag an SSD before it tells you to fuck off?

(Still microcontroller things that need one file to be in a single consecutive blob on the disk).

I've just moved a number of large files that I do not use often from an active partition to a backup partition.

What is odd is that the access speed to the active partition has increased significantly. Since that should not be possible, that must have to do with the manner in which the active partition is accessed by the Android operating system. Some research required.

Darn, this #macos and #exFAT easter egg bit me again.

Trying to rsync files from one external drive (APFS) to another one (exFAT) slows down before my eyes. from 900kB/s to 600 kB/2 in a couple of hours. 1,1 Tb of data, millions of files and moving the files to an external exFAT formatted drive seems like a mission impossible with no heroes around.

F...ck.

@[email protected] As it turns out it was about the filesystem format. While exFAT supports millions of files per dir and huge partitions, #macos writing to #exFAT is just very slow (and also appears to slow down the more you write). Reformatting external disks with #APFS made a huge difference - maybe 10 times faster writes and no slowing down during the huge 7z file extraction process. Extraction toos 5-6 days to exFAT formatted disk and only 6 hours to APFS formatted disk.
