I run Xubuntu version 25.10 with Nvidia driver enabled in system settings. After installing the latest updates the screen shows some flickering. When I try to change to Xorg X open source driver on...

It's wild to me that apparently Xorg has literally 4 FUCKING YEARS worth of patches in the master branch, literally thousands, that just never got merged into stable because "X is dead" became a dogmatic statement, to the detriment of anyone who prefers Xfce or whatever. And no, this doesn't mean I think XLibre is a good project or whatever. I think it's dogshit. The main reason XLibre is maddening to me is because Enrico Weitgeit is an insane, toxic crank of a man. But he's also literally the only person to have even bothered doing anything with X for years. He did deserve his ban from FDo. He does suck. His project sucks. It's just ludicrous that it was even necessary. My favorite part is that screen tearing was a solved issue 5 years ago but never got pushed to the stable branch for… reasons?

Bad fractional scaling on 125% on Apache NetBeans Xorg

I'm having trouble lately with my newly installed Kubuntu on my HP 15s with Intel Iris XE. Currently I'm using fractional scaling of 125% and I seem to experience problems on Xorg particularly with...

Going from X11 to Wayland on Ubuntu 24.04

I'm running Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS x86_64 with NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3050, driver version 570.211.01. It boots to an X11 session. I don't recall disabling Wayland, but I'm not 100% sure. File /etc/gdm3/cu...

i looove X11/Xorg and Xfce, they are just so goddamn stable and light (and yes my prefered distro is debian how could you tell?)
#Linux #Debian #Xfce #Xorg

@aleteoryx I think that the move re: #wayland is due to the same reasons moving away from #SysVinit was at worst a "necessary evil"

  • If sysVinit was fine, @pid_eins would not have started #SystemD (which is basically a reimplementation of #LaunchD for #Linux).
  • If #Xorg was fine noone would've started working on Wayland.
    • Also #Xlibre's head maintainer / project lead is just a horrible person who's words and actions burned any goodwill amidst the originally legitimate issues beforehand.
