Die Europäischen Impfwoche, initiiert vom Regionalbüro für Europa der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (World Health Organization, WHO) erinnert jedes Jahr an die Bedeutung einer umfassenden Immunisierung für den Gesundheitsschutz. Die Europäische Impfwoche ruft dazu auf, den eigenen Impfstatus zu überprüfen und anstehende Impfungen durchführen zu lassen.

The establishment of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) 50 years ago was a pivotal moment in the history of public health and has saved millions of lives globally every year. In 1974, only 5% of the world’s children had been vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. Today, that figure has increased to nearly 85% of children worldwide and 94% in the WHO European Region.

Um die impfende Ärzteschaft zu unterstützen, hat das Robert Koch-Institut sogenannte „Faktensandwiches“ zu einigen häufig vorkommenden Falschinformationen zu Impfungen entwickelt. Hierbei wird zunächst der Fakt angeführt, dann die Falschinformation als solche benannt und anschließend erklärt, woher die Falschinformation kommt und wieso es sich um eine Falschinformation handelt. Abschließend wird der Fakt wiederholt.
