@benno Not transitioning assumes that the continued Pain and Suffering is less great short, middle and longterm than any migration.

I consider any #LockIn, espechally *toxic Lock-In as described a big problem that needs to be dealt with at some point.

  • Cuz it's either #mismanagment or a systemic issue that needs to be fixed!

If one cannot even consider a slow, step-wise migration then obviously the pain and suffering of said #CCSS is not high enough as push factor because #FLOSS has all the pull factors it'll even have...

  • Sounds harsh, but that's my observation and experience as #IT #Sysadmin who migrated several clients/employers away from multiple CCSS to FLOSS options...
@hor32 #Windows fans are only.looking for exuses to their #EscalatingCommitment, because they'd drop #Linux if it even tries 1% of what #Microsoft subjects them to!

@ramsey Again: His account, his decisions.

I just don't have time to deal with peoples' "#EscalatingCommitment" and ego when they clearly dismiss the pain and frustration others experienced.

  • I've met enough people that got traumatized by #php to the point that they can't even touch any computer and now live in the woods.

And the cold dismissal really pushes all the wrong buttons on my end!

Kevin Karhan :verified: (@[email protected])

@[email protected] @[email protected] it's not ignorance. It's the fact that #PHP is still a pain in the ass and that every software I know that uses it is a burning piece of shit when it comes to security and updates. - Seriously, I know people who go [full terminator](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHdG9Dl7V5s&t=20s) when you ask them to deal with shit like #WordPress or any other `php` shite and they'd rather deal with #Java and #Tomcat than to ever touch it. And sadly I agree with them: Because php feels like #IIS Extensions *but worse*...

Infosec.Space

@carbonated_estrogen @Jessica it is a #cult - the cult of #Windows #Sysadmins and #Scareware buyers flexing #EscalatingCommitment and huffing #Copium to the point of absurdity!

  • The fact that almost all don't even consider #migrating away to #Linux is evidence that it's "not painful enough!"...

#Rant re: #Recruitment and #JobOffers - strap in cuz this needs to be said!

Why can't one set stuff like :

  • "I don't want to see or be seen by recruiters / staff / employees of/for [$Company]."
  • "Don't show me positions containing the following Keywords: [i.e. NFT, Blockchain, Web3, ...]"
  • "Only show direct vacancies by the employers."

The best we get are toggles for for full-time / part time, freelance / direct employment and maybe onsite / remote or the "we're too cowardly to admit that we have #EscalatingCommitment to #CommercialRealEstate" aka. "hybrid"....

And lets not get into the shit practice of denying #PaymentTransparency:

  • IMHO it should be made mandatory per law to disclose the actual "Employee Gross Pay" that the employer is willing and guaranteeing to pay to any successful applicant filling the vacancy!

If my local ALDI can say 'we pay € 14,85/hr starting before taxes' then so can your million- or even billion Euro company that promises upper 5 to lower 6 digit annual pay packages!

  • Not that I think € 14,85/hr is a good pay given it's a stressful and menial job with almost no upward mobility (I mean best one can do is Shift Supervisor or Store Manager, it's not as if one will get promoted beyond that!) and that would get many people I know quit from boreout.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say that recruiters, companies, HR firms and candidates should stop wasting time dickin' around the bush and be fucking honest.

  • Literally NOONE is labouring their life in any job - from the most underpaid #Shitjob delivering parcels and food to the most overpaid "#WhiteCollar" cubicle dwelling - because they "love their job"... That lie died when #boomers retieed as the the last folks which would've been eligible for 50 years as an employee badge of honor if it hadn't been discontinued in 1966.

We're adults, so I do expect you as a recruiter to treat me as an adult and say:
"I'm urgently in need to fill a position because we fucked up having *no apprentices or trainees the last 20 years, our arrogant past-#CEO literally forced everyone into the office and our IT staff collectively quit because of that and when those that we hired as replacement catched #LongCovid we fired them and we now realize that forcing people into unventilated cubicles with a filthy A/C that only works under 30°C is a bad idea so we offer this position remotely..."*

But I guess most #neurotypicals will just not appreciate honesty and instead love pretty lies instead...

  • And I don't blame people for doing the same. I don't as a matter of principle even if it hurts me and my wallet short-term...

Sorry, this rant was bought to you by the guy who got the same shit job offered for the 12th time by 12 different recruiters in 6 months.

  • Not that I'm unwilling for any exclusivity contracts... it's just that noone sent me acceptable terms as of writing...

But I do want to stress that this rant isn't about me, but about how much space, time and money is being wasted on absurdities that it's infuriating...

  • Like I've seen cases where a position at [$PublicAgency] was offered to me via [$HiringFirm] who directed me to [$SubcontractingAmdConsultancyFirm] that then offered said people at a 250% markup because noone with even a bit self-esteem and skills would've accepted the scrutiny of a Level 2 Security Clearance and subsequent restrictions and demands for a paygrade like E8, which is below what a full-time delivery driver can make through [$DeliveryCompany] can do and all that job takes is a road-legal bicycle, shitty android smartphone, ID card, being legally able to work in Germany and being able to memorize absolute basic phrases to communicate and being able to sign a friggin' contract and show up at work on time sober and not filthy...

If I had a few million euros I'd likely started such a #JobClassifieds page ages ago... Alas, I don't...

  • If there's anyone from #XING, #StepStone, etc. reading this: #PLZFIX your platforms and if you want and need help with that, get in touch with me!

#Boosts & #Comments are highly appreciated!

@PavelASamsonov OFC, it's #WastefulComputing that requires an ever #EscalatingCommitment to keep using that bs.

THIS is why #GAFAMs push for "#Cloud" Computing because they want people amd businesses to not have the freedom to choose or exercise control over their data, but be an ever-paying consumer...

@johnlogic @fennix @renard @Em0nM4stodon @bsi ans in the case of #Munich, #Microsoft literally #bribed the #mayor into cancelling #LiMux, their #Linux distro.

If nations like Venezuela and Cuba can do it then the @EUCommission should do so too, instead of violating it's own #procurement #laws due to #EscalatingCommitment and #mismanagment that got them into an alleged "#LockIn"...

@thamesynne until people FORCE companies to support #Linux or just flatout REFUSE to buy and use their products and services, shit will not change.

In terms of "It just runs on Linux!" this already is the case with the vast majority of games and applications on #Wine.

In all seriousness, I've yet to see any case where I couldn't migrate someone to #Linux...

We ain't in like 2007 where shit didn't work at all and #Microsoft #FUD'ed Linux on #Desktop so hard people still repeat these lines today when in fact it's Windows that's mutating!

@grahamperrin and I'm entertained by the #EscalatingCommitment to garbage but then again if people were rational, there wouldn't be an entire industry selling #DigitalSnakeoil to #TechIlliterate decisionmakers...

@[email protected] wrote: 「… All centralized, single vendor and single provider, SaaS-only - solutions are bad.」 You're quite correct. Microsoft Teams enabled the organisation for which I work to function as effectively as possible — with minimal disruption to the tens of thousands of users involved — during and long after the critical period when the first COVID-19 lockdowns began. You were quite correct. Not entirely. 「… Teams gradually forces changes …」 Let's be more specific. Microsoft's most recent changes are most welcome. I'm no longer limited to Apple iPadOS, far less isolated from those tens of thousands of users; for the first time ever, I can use a niche, tier-3 web browser on a niche open source operating system to make and receive voice and video calls with the masses. Bad, as in, impressively tough or skilful: <https://www.thesaurus.com/browse/bad?s=t#-informal-impressively-tough-or-skillful> I know a badass improvement when I see one.
