I'm not sure why I'm surprised to find out Zurich didn't already have an eruv. 🤔

"A symbolic network of lines now connects several neighbourhoods, in particular #Wiedikon, #Enge and #Wollishofen in #Zurich. This is a so-called #Eruv, a closed public zone. In Zurich, it covers around 14 square kilometres.

In this designated area in the city of Zurich, relaxed rules now apply for #Jews during the day of rest, the #Sabbath."

I recently posted that my wife and I were ceasing donations to the #Boston #Eruv until they removed "We support Israel!" from their website.
They responded today: "I made the necessary edits to the website. Hopefully, our mutually beneficial arrangement of having a Community Eruv and having you support it as you have for many years can continue."
I'm pleased. This is honestly not what I expected.
Just a reminder that speaking up _can_ make a difference!

My wife and I have happily supported the #Boston #Eruv for many years.¹
They put up a "We support Israel" logo on their website in October 2023 and haven't taken it down since.
I just emailed them that we won't donate again until they stop publicly supporting #Israel.
It's long past time for Jews with a conscience to tell Jewish institutions they're associated with that they're all done putting up with supporting #genocide.
[UPDATE: They took it down!]

The Wire That Transforms Much of Manhattan Into One Big, Symbolic Home

The eruv, a nearly invisible holy boundary, must be intact every Friday.

Showing my ignorance, but I thought #Judaism had rules so Jewish people DIDN'T have to do things like this.

Isn't it called "Preservation of Life?"

For Strictly Observant Jews in Brooklyn, the Sabbath Expands

For the first time, an exception to the prohibition against “carrying” on the day of rest includes most of the borough, allowing, among other things, children to be pushed in strollers.
