#Epicureans embrace #hedonism which is often referred to in negative terms.
#Pleasure is not "being a mere puppet on the strings of one's lust or desires". We mean the joy of company, spreading happiness, enjoying the good things in life in moderation so they are truly appreciated.

Sigma ζ (she/her)I encourage everyone to read De Rerum Natura, by Titus Lucretius. It is a fascinating work from the time of Gaius Iulius Caesar regarding the proto-scientific thought processes of the #Epicureans, who were a group of #philosophers that went almost entirely extinct during the European Dark Ages. The Epicureans were very nearly the first science fiction authors in the entire world, and De Rerum Natura outright suggests that there might be non-human intelligence in the universe. In Caesar's time!
