There is no mistake what this war is about: oil.

Land Defenders in North America recognize that "we will murder any who stand in the way of maximum oil revenue" has been policy for a long time, but to hear it spoken so brazenly and publicly open, still sends shivers down your spine.

This is why we must walk away from oil dependency. Cubans are learning this lesson in a big way, as they are starved by the fuel blockage created by Trump's control of Venezualan oil which he seized through military invasion. Their farmers are growing food, but can't get them to market because everybody in Cuba has grown dependent on oil.

Sunshine and wind are natural resources which cannot be stolen from our lands, and extracted for the greed of foreign nations. Sure, they can invest in our infrastructure to profit off these resources in our local communities, but they can't just take the resources from us. Alberta is abundant in these resources, and that has made us a prime target for green energy investments, even as our provincial premier continues to cut off hundreds of millions of dollars of shovel-ready investments and stave off billions more, just to reduce competition for oil corporations who are afraid of us losing dependency.

Our premier claims that Albertans are "being subsidized by oil in every community", so we need to take the burden off billionaire oil corporations extracting that oil and pony up for public educaton funding out of our own pockets, through our municipal property taxes. But that is not the truth. The oil in Alberta is OWNED by Albertans. Royalties are our fee to allow these billionaires to extract our resources which belong to Albertans, and it is the government's responsibility to "manage these resources on our behalf". So why is Danielle Smith working for the benefit of oil corporations instead of us, to ensure they get to steal away our owned resources at little to no cost to them? Because Danielle Smith does not work for Alberta, despite her sworn office.

It is time to end oil dependency, NOW! As quickly as possible. No, we will not "kill Alberta's oil industry" by leveling the playing field a bit. If we go above and beyond the maximum effort to slow down oil dependency in Alberta, we won't even put a dent in their operations. But we might be able to breathe life into other industries being violently stifled by oil tycoons and the politicians who work for them. Fair taxation will not hurt anybody, it will be a net benefit to all.
