Open models like PyPSA offer real advantages for system planning: transparency in assumptions, full control over your modelling environment, no vendor lock-in, and the ability to handle sensitive data in-house. We want to make them as accessible as possible for TSOs.

What happens when #OpenSource energy modeling meets African open-source developers?

⚑ At OSCA Fest in Lagos, we presented open energy planning to developers, graduates & entrepreneurs via the #MapYourGrid project and PyPSA-Earth. The workshop sparked big interest in applying open-source energy solutions for Africa’s future.

Faster models, smarter transitions with an open-source benchmark of #optimization #solvers from the energy planning domain⚑️
Test user James Glynn (ESMA) tried the Open Energy Benchmark. It is mixing open & proprietary solvers with smart filters. Speeds research, drives innovation, boosts competition.

Thank you for your insights, James.

πŸš€ Launching: Awesome Grid Model Data! A curated, open-licensed catalogue of electricity grid model datasets to power interoperability in energy modeling.

Why? Because real-world, ready-to-use datasets are essential for testing and building interoperable tools but they’re often scattered or inconsistent.

Open Energy Benchmark has been tested and is live! Supported by @BreakthroughEnergy, it compares 5 solvers across 120 benchmarks (modeling frameworks: PyPSA, GenX, Sienna, PowerModels, Tulipa, TEMOA, and TIMES)

One of our test user, Victor Guillot (MINES Paris), calls it intuitive and a big time-saver.

A great tool for anyone working on energy models & decarbonization.

Open Energy Benchmark

An open-source benchmark of optimization solvers on representative problems from the energy planning domain.

Open Energy Benchmark

Last week, three of our colleagues taught a Modeling Regional Power Markets with open-source tools course in Johannesburg! 35 energy pros from 6 African countries learned Python and PyPSA.

Key insights:
πŸ“Œ Power pools = more investment opportunities
πŸ“Œ Open-source tools democratizing energy planning
πŸ“Œ Local capacity growing strong

Thanks to @InternationalCentreHydropower & @HansBredesen for partnership! πŸ™

@brunopostle I did a bit research. #Revit has an extension for #energymodeling and options for #gbXML export through #Dynamo. #Rhino has #Honeybee and #Ladybug as energy extensions to #Grasshopper. #BIMServer can extract geometry from #IFC and serialise it as gbXML. #IDA-ICE imports IFC directly. What about #TopologicSverchok, can it extract geometry and export it as gbXML?
