Forcing this on the world is pointless, as it can easily be bypassed (fake ID pictures, VPNs, sneakernet, bad content detection algorithms) but at the same time, it makes it harder, if not impossible, for sites like the Wayback Machine to work properly, as they can't automatically bypass every age verification block (if they could, then most users would have software that could do this, and these laws would be defeated, and less effective than prohibition laws were at any point) These laws are actively destroying the open web, and yet, they won't even go after the actual problem. Additionally, Musk has not only allowed this to happen, he has embraced it, and publicly promoted it numerous times. This was not an accident. I was just checking in on my local regional government's use of X/Twitter. It looks like they have removed it from their website and their contacts! 👍https://acrd.bc.ca (cc: @ZebKing)
The X account is still valid and they do post there occasionally but it's definitely not a priority.
They are using their Facebook Page as the only embedded social media on their website and most frequent social activity.. even though if you click on it, Facebook demands that you login.
Aside: When I searched for the account on Google the first hit that came up is their March 21, 2020 tweet that states "Visitors and Tourists urged not to travel to the West Coast until further notice”. Wow... flashback. #Covid19 #covid19bc
If I search again, I get different results every time.
The biggest impediment to moving away from Twitter is that the Emergency services community still use Twitter extensively.
They need to be shown that their tweets are *not* getting to the people they think they are in addition to being nearly invisible to anyone without a Twitter account!
I have now reached the point where if someone says they still use Twitter willingly (ie. not only because they're required by their employer), I instinctively think less of them.

EckiUnd noch ein jahr Murks, ähm Musk, und #Twitter ist auf dem niveau, und hat die gleiche funktion wie "Der Stürmer" vor hundert jahren - nur eben in modern und als "social media", für die am lautesten kreischenden ultra-"konservativen" wirrköppe in ihrer monströsen echokammer, die Speer und Goebbels verzückte freudentränen in die augen treiben würden.
