We are determined 2 reconcile fisheries with conservation, at all scales. We began by collaborating with small-scale fishers who collect wild seahorses by hand. We then realized that the biggest threat to #seahorses comes from #bottomtrawling. This indiscriminate gear catches 1000s of species & destroys marine habitats, while also posing huge social & economic problems. We are now producing the research & making the connections that will help #endbottomtrawling, in favour of selective fisheries.
The @UN #OceanDecade is the perfect time to highlight the negative impacts of unregulated #BottomTrawling and stop the threat it poses to #underwater #CulturalHeritage and #NaturalHeritage! ๐คฟโ๏ธ๐ชธ๐
