Tragedy in the Channel

Twelve lives were lost in the French/English Channel on Tuesday night as people fleeing to safety made the devastatingly hard decision to attempt to cross the channel. Many of those who perished were from #Eritrea, fleeing a brutal dictatorship.

This is the largest loss of life in the #Channel this year, where people risk everything daily for a chance of a better life. The European #asylum system is failing those most in need. We must demand safe and legal routes for all. No one should have to die seeking safety. Without the creation of safe and legal routes more lives will be lost. Governments must act now.
