The more I think about the #fox #Roku purchase. The more dangerous I think it is.
There are a few perspectives.
1. a traditional #cable #channel #network owns a #streaming or internet #hardware based #platform. It's beyond just #software. Sounds like too much power if one cable network company gets too comfortable with owning a hardware tech platform others may follow suit and lobby for laws that make life more miserable for #YouTubers , and independent creators.
2. A right leaning #news propagator, now owns an internet hardware based platform. Sounds like too much power for a harmful political nature. imagine going on a #streamingbox or #smarttv and #foxnews is promoted first on the homepage. Unlike other companies Roku owned by Fox would actually be incentivsed to keep the right leaning fox news channel constantly highlighted.
If it was just a streaming platform just don't buy into it, don't view their ads.
But now if somehow price is an issue and lets say Roku is your only affordable option for a streaming stick or tv in the future.
If you actually bought into it, your Roku stick or tv might be promoting fox news first.
