I am so happy that I found the #Cadfael novels by #EdithPargeter (pen name: #EllisPeters)! These novels are GLORIOUS #Medieval #mysteries! The TV Shows? Not so much...but Derek Jacobi made them fantastic!

Medieval enthusiasts? Read these! If you are into audiobooks, please - no matter my love for Jacobi as narrator - skip those. They're abridged! Look for the Stephen Thorne narration - those are all unabridged.

What you miss is a LOT! Also, don't watch the show & think the books are the same!

I'm rereading Brother #Cadfael for the nth time within the past 40 years and this time, I'm paying attention to how ridiculously wealthy abbots wanted to be, but the #grace of God, and how entitled they seem to feel to be in charge of people's lives.

I'm also noticing how worried about the #wrath of the Catholic Church and its #god ordinary people seem to be. They were truly convinced that not heeding obligations to the abbey or the #church structure would consign them to the pits of a real #hell.
