I just watched this video that explains a possible reason why people are lonely, and it may not be what you expect.

@ottaross

I often see two people I'm following for completely different reasons interact with each other. I've come to the conclusion that the entire world has only a few hundred people in it, and everyone knows everyone else.

Never thought it might have anything to do with me being a mutual follower.

Dunbar’s Number: Why the Theory That Humans Can Only Maintain 150 Friendships Has Withstood 30 Years of Scrutiny - Neuroscience News
"Thirty years ago, Robin Dunbar theorized humans can maintain a friendship group of 150 people, with five intimate friendships. Despite many attempts to challenge the theory, Dunbar's Number has stood the test of time. Backed by neuroscience and statistics, Robin Dunbar explains why his theory still prevails."

“Another flaw with Metcalfe's Law is that not all connections are created equal. If you believe #DunbarsNumber, a person's maximum number of meaningful relationships tops out at 150. That implies that social networks actually scale more linearly than exponentially, and they aren't as bulletproof as their investors would have you believe.”

The End of The Twitter Era

I've been thinking a lot about how social networks die. Will Twitter decline like MySpace, or collapse like Digg?

Today in my weekly really large #SAFeAgileFramework cross ART alignment meeting with many people.

Again three new teams.

Very short introduction of the new teams with the usual superhero and/or pet names.

Inbetween someone asks if each team can simply say what system component they do.

So true. I am always mixing team and components, forgetting who does what. Sure it is written somewhere in Confluence.

Dunbar was an anthropologist, not a neuroanatomy researcher, and Dunbar's Number was an ethnographical observation, not a biological one.

"Your social life has a biological limit: 150. That’s the number—Dunbar’s number, proposed by the British psychologist Robin Dunbar three decades ago—of people with whom you can have meaningful relationships."

Fix Facebook by Making It More Like Google+

Breaking up social-media companies is one way to fix them. Shutting their users up is a better one.

Abschließend noch ein kurzer Selbsttest: Wie viele Menschen in Deinem direkten familiären, privaten und beruflichen Umfeld - also maximal #DunbarsNumber - leben Deiner Meinung nach in einer verengten Bubble?
