Robin Dunbar is an anthropologist who posited that human beings can only maintain familiar relationships with about 150 people. Commonly known as 'Dunbar's number'.

People often claim, on this basis, that a close-knit village can't be bigger than that number. But that's not really how community works.

@Downes @cogdog Speaking of that #DunbarNumber, I wonder if there’s room to revisit his work, from the perspective of #netnography. I’ve only heard the number mentioned outside of #anthropology.
