It’s past time that we put an end to the punitive approach toward cannabis-related offenses and decriminalize cannabis on a federal level. Submit your comments and urge the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to follow the lead of 31 states that have decriminalized the substance.
The Justice Department has officially submitted its proposal to reclassify cannabis from a Schedule I to a Schedule III substance. Since the 1970s, marijuana has been treated legally the same as more harmful substances like methamphetamine, and much more severely than fentanyl. President Biden is keeping his campaign promise and finally changing that. If this proposal is approved, it will make it far easier to conduct research legally on marijuana’s effects and for state’s to offer tax benefits for cannabusinesses. There are a number of administrative steps remaining before this is finalized. First, we need to show overwhelming support during the current public comment period. Can you add your voice to our official comment in support of reclassifying marijuana? 24 states and Washington DC have already approved marijuana for recreational use, with more coming every year. When voters are asked, they have overwhelmingly supported legalizing marijuana. Even deep south states like Mississippi and Louisiana have decriminalized cannabis. This is the latest step toward modernizing marijuana policy from President Biden. President Biden had previously issued an executive order pardoning all people convicted of simple possession under federal law. We are making progress. But we have to keep pushing to get this policy across the finish line! Add your voice: Tell the Department of Justice you support President Biden’s efforts to reclassify marijuana!
