Conditions also improved in parts of the Midwest and Northeast, with an area of degradation in New Jersey.

U.S. Drought Monitor April 2, 2026
For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 50.07% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 46.97% last week.
Drought expanded and intensified across most of the country with a few spots of improvement in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest and Northeast. Drought (D1-D4) covers 56.21% of the US, up 1.4 points from last week.
The last time there was this much drought in the US was the week of Nov. 29, 2022, when 57.51% of the contiguous US was affected.

Improvements occurred in parts of the Northeast and Hawaii. Mixed conditions occurred in parts of the Midwest and Southeast, plus Alaska.
