This summer, I'm learning more about Disability Law and related programs, thanks to Prof. Imani Boykin and some brilliant colleagues at Stetson University College of Law. The timing could not be better, given the current FY26 Federal budget proposals that could impact eligibility and benefits for a significant number of people with special needs. Thanks to the USAFacts team for the great visuals to help break down what it all means 📊 #DisabilityLaw #ElderCare #SpecialNeeds #PlanAhead #RetireWell #MAHA

Planning Ahead: Medicare & Medicaid

I would normally be taking a summer break from my usual studies in Elder Law, but I could not pass up the opportunity to learn the latest on Disability Law from Prof. Imani Boykin at Stetson University College of Law before I complete the LLM program this fall.

Trump administration policies could create new barriers for disabled Americans in employment, education, and health care. Changes to federal programs may impact the whole 20-25% of the population with disabilities. https://theconversation.com/cutting-medicaid-and-federal-programs-are-among-4-key-trump-administration-policy-changes-that-could-make-life-harder-for-disabled-people-244458

Cutting Medicaid and federal programs are among 4 key Trump administration policy changes that could make life harder for disabled people

Tracking disability policies has long been challenging − this will become a harder task under the Trump administration.

This month I've been learning more about Guardianships & Alternatives, thanks to Prof. Edwin Boyer and some phenomenal Elder Law LLM classmates at Stetson University College of Law. Given all the recent changes across so many Federal departments and agencies involved in elder care related programs and services, like Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Social Security Administration, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and more, this is an area of the law many will want to familiarize themselves with to ensure they have the right resources in place to support their long-term decision-making through less-restrictive alternatives. #ElderLaw #DisabilityLaw #PlanAhead #RetireWell

I am grateful for all the support in the community since Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit the Tampa Bay area this past fall to be able to resume part-time studies at Stetson University College of Law this spring. This semester, I am focused on learning more about Guardianships & Alternatives from Pr

I legitimately think that a good lawyer needs to front a human rights class action lawsuit on the behalf of disabled people in BC. We've been trapped in our homes and unable to participate safely in basic human life for several years now. How that isn't a eugenics program is beyond me. We've been very vocally told we don't have the same rights as able bodied people or that we do, but we just have to accept that we will die in the process.

Be UC Davis' top disability cop overseeing employees (as opposed to head of the separate disability cop system they have for students).

It's easy! No requirements that are publicly viewable! *wink wink*

It's always hard to figure out whether to boycott a system or bring it down from within or both. If you're in favor of the latter, get this job ad out to anti-ableists.

UC gives away the game by asking for expertise in "ADA compliance" rather than expertise in making everything accessible and inclusive. They had to be compelled. And they will fight in in court when their rationing & policing offices aren't stonewalling effectively enough.
