... I believe they never should have abolished the Dip Ed in the first place. Reinstating it won't fix the teacher shortage, but it's a start.
The GradDipEd was a baptism of fire and the workload of cramming all your teaching study into a single postgrad year (while working your uni job) matched the workload you faced as a beginning teacher.
It was adequate preparation. The fact that I'm still in teaching, almost 20 years later, attests to this. And I'm offended by the implications in this article. If I'm good enough for one of Western Australia's most desirable public schools on a Dip Ed, there's surely nothing wrong with my training!
