@cyberlyra you know I'm always a little amazed that folks in CompSci defend this sort of thing.
But then some folks do work for data brokers. Data collected for an initial context can leak, be stolen or be sold on. It's still collected, it's still useful.

Imagine as a mixed digital and physical art project: poppets of public figures, but with a small medallion with storage/embroidered QR code that covered what's been leaked about them in hacks, or released files in the public interest.
Imagine mocking up what could still be available to law enforcement about public figures under chat control.
Encourage others to make their own poppets of those figures and share that data.
Art is political.

Data protection law in the US is very Opt out. You should be worried. To be honest everyone in the world should consider the US "A country of concern" when it comes to data protection.
We do need to ask these questions if we want to know why Mom and Pop stores just set up on Facebook or other hard to move from silos.

The harm isn't just the fact that Mark Zuckerberg farms us for data.
It's who he sells that data onto. Collating that data of what we post, our metadata as well to make #DigitalPoppets which can be used to stalk and harass us.
Sometimes by Hostile Governments but also by other rich men to puppet us via politics or commerce.
By reducing us to data.
