An int’l team using the European XFEL that included DESY scientists has found that #diamondrain on icy planets is more common and has an effect on their magnetic fields. DESY technologies in X-ray science and detectors were important for this result, provided via the EuXFEL user consortium HIBEF, which is led by @HZDR. Researchers reveal new findings on diamond rain on ice planets

An international team of researchers led by Dr. Mungo Frost from the SLAC research center in California has gained new insights into the formation of diamond rain on icy planets such as Neptune and Uranus, using the X-ray laser European XFEL in Schenefeld. The results also provide clues to the formation of the complex magnetic fields of these planets.
