Fire behavior was greatly reduced on Tuesday compared to what firefighters were dealing with Sunday and Monday, which can be attributed to the hard work done Monday by resources both in the air and on the ground. On Tuesday, firefighters walked the perimeter extinguishing hot spots with the assistance of a helicopter carrying a water bucket. The terrain is rugged, steep, and only accessible by foot, with no sources of water nearby. The fire did not grow significantly in acreage. However, no containment was achieved in the last operational period. Lots of dozer line has been constructed, and fire-damaged hazard trees have been removed so firefighters can safely work in these areas.
Weather and Fuel Conditions: Yesterday, relative humidity again dropped into the single digits and temperatures climbed to the upper 80s by afternoon, but winds remained relatively calm, allowing crews to make good progress on reinforcing their lines around the fire. The overnight forecast called for humidity to recover to 30 percent or more, which tends to slows burning after sunset. Today calls for much of the same — sunny, highs in the upper 80s or lower 90s and no chance of rain, although relative humidity is expected to be in the teens.
