Managed to put a bit more time into this tonight. I don't really know where I'm going with it, just kinda playing around.

Taking another stab at painting this girl. Decided to start with an acrylic underpainting, so this is very early/work in progress, but I love this block in stage when everything looks so graphic.

Finally got a chance to come back and finish this painting - master study/my take on Kay Nielsen's 1912 Illustration from the fairy tale, In Powder and Crinoline. Love his long flowy, tragically beautiful characters.

"She stopped to speak to him, altering her mind, and went on her way."

Work in progress and I obviously have no idea what I'm doing. BUT! working on my 1st ever oil painting.

I don't know why, but I'm most excited about the fact that her paintbrush actually looks like a paintbrush. #artismagic

Thanks to my 1 admiring fan on mastodon, here is another painting of mine. This is based on this amazing piece of feebeejp's in the book Japanese Mythical Creatures. It is a #baku

"The baku is a strange holy beast that has the body of a bear, the head of an elephant, the eyes of a rhinoceros, the tail of an ox, and the legs of a tiger. Despite their monstrous appearance, baku are revered as powerful forces of good, and as one of the holy protectors of mankind.

Baku watch over humans and act as guardian spirits. They feed on the dreams of humans – specifically bad dreams. Evil spirits and yokai fear baku and flee from them, avoiding areas inhabited by them. Therefore, health and good luck follow a baku wherever it goes." - Myths and Folklore Wiki

This one I did with #gouache. #art #painting #japanesemythology #defconartists

And to actually post some #art for all the #defconartists (where are you?) - here's a painting I did based on some #conceptart for #cyberpunk2077
