I'm still here on Mastodon. I came during that protest over Twitter when it was being taken over by the billionaire. While I am still here, many of my friends who came over have gone back to the billionaire's site. Been all my life outside the crowd and sometimes feels alienating.
I like the decentralized ownership, and lack of consumerism and mass culture, no focus on mass trends masquerading as movements, that rise and then deflate, like dirigibles that can't lift off. This is social media for the circular economy. It doesn't have to lift off or become big, just be grounded in democracy.
What it doesn't have? Too few independent journalists. Most are after the mass crowds, so X.Not enough of them on here. Algorithms suggesting what to like and who to follow? Not here. You got to work to get information. It is not canned for you. it is more like the Internet in my day or before that even when we had to write and meet face to face, not with our electronic chaperone ever at our side.
I suppose It could be improved.Just don't let the billionaires get their hands on it.

This Reddit blackout is proving my point we need to go back to forums. Trying to search an error message, first thing that pops up in Google is a Reddit post with the error message. But the sub is participating in the protest. Thankfully there is a cache. But can we PLEASE go back to using forums?
