We can't all be that guy from the Milgram shock experiments. So the trick is to not put ourselves in that position- where a single individual holds the line against harm.

And if you actually look at the Milgram experiments, what you find is not that people gleefully shocked people to death but were desperately searching out for that support:

So make sure you have it - become that for someone else - before you need it.

The secret shock study

Would you electrocute your son for science?

Experimental History

If you were asked to do something unethical, are you afraid that you wouldn't be able to hold the line? That's normal - that's why organizing exists. By organizing you build the power to support each other through the fear.

(The catch is it works best if you get organized beforehand :P)

#DailyResistance

a small linguistic act of resistance: always disambiguate whether you are referring to the state of the people. eg "I support Ukrainians" or "I disagree with the actions of the state of Russia".

Posting a link to my anti-ICE zine: ICE isn't a danger just to immigrants, it's a danger to all of us: https://heat-shield.space/race_police.html

If I could request one thing from y'all, it's that you talk to someone who's maybe sympathetic, but ultimately sees it as not their problem - either show them the zine or just talk to them about them, and persuade them to go with you to a protest. It doesn't matter which one - just get in the habit.

wrote a guide for organizing your coworkers. it was 90% a guide to making friends as an adult.

If you ever feel powerless, it's because our society's stories of power are false or misleading. You have power, but it doesn't come from a macguffin, not from a science experiment gone wrong, not from being a prince or a duke, or stumbling across a magical well. It comes from standing with a bunch of people just like you. It comes from saying "yes", when someone says "we can do this if we all do it together. will you do it with me?" It comes from being the person to ask.

#DailyResistance

having done a lot of organizing work lately, it strikes me how much damn work is to get out in front of people and build a personal relationship with them - and how much algorithms made that labor invisible
