A typical Summer’s Eve at #DEERHAVEN.

Deer politics are as brutal as ours. We have two families here. Anna just had twin fawns (Galileo & Figaro), so naturally she had to shun her yearling, Bolt — who is the sweetest buck. This morning, there was a huge fight and chase throughout the garden, the orchard and the back acre. Bibbidi, the rival mother, and her two yearlings (Thunder & Lightning) ganged up on Bolt and broke one of his perfect antlers off while Bobbidi (the oldest buck) and one of the fawns looked on.

Bobbi’s in the orchard. He greeted me by pooping in my general direction. He was shot by a MAGA neighbor two months ago with a .22. He was the runt of his litter two years ago, so we give him extra love. And we get it back in spades. Only that makes him a nuisance to assholes.

This is Thunder. In Bed #3. He’s the heir to Donner’s throne in this herd. He’s only a yearling, but his only rival is Bobbi — a runt. And a sweet runt at that. Too sweet for #DEERHAVEN though.
