STM32F4xx + DCMI + USB Custom (CDC + UVC)

STM32F4xx + DCMI + USB Custom (CDC + UVC)

#eddi2024 Sam Oh #DCMI is giving the keynote on FAIR metadata

I've been walking to #DCMI along University Avenue in Toronto, which has what looks like well-protected bike lanes, and bikes and cars both moving along well when I passed.

Today I found out the provincial government wants to remove those bike lanes, along with some other bike lanes around the city. There's a rally today nearby to show support for keeping them: https://www.jessicabellmpp.ca/rally_ride

Personalization & recommendation services can be appealing to libraries, but most depend on user surveillance to work, which users might not want (and some emphatically don't want). Even if a library pledges to keep such information safe, it can leak (as in multiple recent hacks of libraries that have made the news). And it can also sometimes be commandeered and repurposed by others (including police in Singapore, whose library "personalization" #DCMI just heard about: https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/01/11/1016004/singapore-tracetogether-contact-tracing-police/ )
Broken promises: How Singapore lost trust on contact tracing privacy

Guarantees that Singaporean phone data would only be used to fight covid-19 were hollow. The implications could stretch beyond the country’s borders.

Metadata Standards

The new Government of Canada's guidance documents on assessing metadata needs, on metadata life cycle management, on prescribing metadata reference standards, and on data quality: https://www.canada.ca/en/government/system/digital-government/digital-government-innovations/information-management.html.

These are new for 2024, replacing metadata standards published in 2010, after extensive interviews with workers across the Canadian federal government. #DCMI

It's my first time attending #DCMI, the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative conference, held this year at the University of Toronto. It's a relatively small conference (maybe 150 people?), and I probably won't live-toot (much) but the folks here are doing interesting things with metadata (in both research and practical contexts), and I'm looking forward to hearing from and talking with them. Program and more info here: https://www.dublincore.org/conferences/2024/
