A media cult is a cult of messages and stories. Where a person adores a pattern of memes and messages, a story so much, they will sacrifice to that media. Or even a medium, a device of media, such as a musical instrument, spokesperson, singer, poet, artificial intelligence, network connection.
The cult is not to a person, but to a story. Bible verse "1 John 4:20" describes this problem, having never "seen" "God" or "Jesus".
