The original hems appear to have been sewn with a straight stitch, so I suppose they used stretchy thread? I wanted to sew two-needle #coverstitch hems though, to preserve as much stretch as possible.

I use my industrial coverstitch machine the least, so I’m less confident #sewing with it. I was dreading that sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to get it set up correctly since I also use it for chain-stitching jean hems with heavy-duty needles and thread.

The T-shirt is now finished and just in the nick of time 🌸 It was requested short so I'm hoping it fits. The neckband puckers when it is flat but I think it will stretch out when worn. At least I hope so. It looks like fine on the dress form. PS. Note to myself: Don't leave it to the day before to sew a gift 😄🪡

My T-shirt project is progressing. The neckband has been sewn on with the coverstitch machine so now I need to sew on the sleeves with the overlocker and then sew the sides together.

@sewing needed to get past a creative block so I sewed up a quick tank top last night. I’m very happy with the result even though I see where the binding is better on the second side because I was more thoughtful about application. A great first #coverstitch #sewing project though, and now I’m not afraid of my coverstitch machine.

if you’re sewing spandex - such as for togs, to pick a completely random example - fabric tack or glue sticks are your friend and lifesaver.

i’m pretty happy with this. and i should write it down for the next time - i’ve made more than a dozen of these, and it still took some doing to figure out the elastic application.

elastic and fabric quartered and eighthed, pinned together with roughly 1/2” overlap, and the elastic stretched during stitching to ease in the fabric.

not perfect, but pretty good, and DEFINITELY good after 2 years!

(and yes, penguins in christmas boxers for hanukkah.)

life gets in the way. i realized i hadn’t used my coverstitch machine since we moved a year and a half ago - it was still taped up in the box.

as much as i love it, the learning curve is steep like whoa and a nearly two year sabbatical (counting from when it was boxed up and put in a shipping container) is not fun to climb back up.

now to finish the #hanukkah underwear.
