Cosmac Elf - Blink using a Kim UNO Board

I saw this video about the Cosmac ELF which was a DIY computer from 1976.

I was fascinated with this. So naturally I went to eBay to see if I could find one cheap. No luck, but I found this KIM-UNO board that is a #simulator / #emulator for the KIM-1 - But someone made ELF firmware for it - so I picked it up.
Modern DIY ELF LOL.

LittleFS: The Emphasis Is On Little

It used to be that developing for microcontrollers was relatively relaxing. These days, even a cheap micro like the Raspberry Pi Pico has multiple cores, networking (for the W, at least), and file …

Behold, a hex keyboard and two-digit encoder all done up with 74 series logic, a 555 timer and a diode matrix! Could I have used an Arduino or a purpose chip (like a 74C923)? Sure, but it wouldn't have been as much fun to figure out!

They said I was mad when I first gave the idea to make a hex pad with a diode matrix and no dedicated keyboard encoder... but they'll see, I'll show them! *lightning crashes*

Voilà - the over-engineered dot matrix hex display is complete!

FrankenELF progress: I needed a way to view hex digits for data input into the ELF. All the BCD to 7 segment decoders that are still being made can't do hex. Someone in the CosmacELF email group suggested an EPROM solution, and I figured, "why not over-engineer the crap out of it?"
